Optus Sport. Principal CDN Engineer.

2021 to 2026

Scale Deployed and ran the Optus EPYC bare-metal CDN streaming Australia’s home of football at carrier scale. 8 Tbps installed capacity, 2.5 Tbps peak throughput, 99.95% uptime. Carried Optus Sport’s streaming load through FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, part of the 1.2M peak concurrent national audience across Seven and Optus, the largest since the Sydney Olympics. Mux QoS 5 to 10 points above commercial CDN comparators on identical streams across the tournament.

Operations Unified multi-CDN posture across in-house EPYC, Akamai, CloudFront, and Fastly; 99.5%+ cache hit ratio on bare-metal. Unit delivery cost 94% below commercial CDN benchmark. Zero CVE-driven incidents across five years on a public-facing open-source edge. Custom-compiled Varnish, Nginx and HAProxy on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Advisory Advised Optus Networks on the 400G Metro Core build, HTTP/3 implications, and 5G stadium delivery.


NSW Health Lumos. Lead Engineer.

2017 to 2021

Scope Engineered and operationalised Australia’s first statewide linked primary care data program. 900+ general practices. >50% NSW population coverage.

Build Bloom filter Privacy Preserving Record Linkage (with Curtin University) integrated with the NSW Health Master Linkage Key workflow at production state-scale, joining general practice records to hospital, emergency department, cancer registry, and mortality data across all 10 NSW Primary Health Networks. Built the general practice ingestion pipeline across all clinical management systems. Delivered the secure analytics warehouse with role-based access and technically enforceable governance gates on custodian, linkage, and release approvals.

Operations Held daily-cadence identified linkage through the *COVID-19 peak waves of 2020.

Recognition NSW Health Award for Health Research and Innovation. Commonwealth Health Innovation Fund support for statewide expansion. Bi-annual release cadence continues without the build team; peer-reviewed research still publishing in BMJ Heart, BMJ Open, and Heart, Lung and Circulation.

2015 to 2016

Build. Engineered with the team: a Varnish and Nginx CDN-in-a-box, the dashboard, and git-based configuration workflows, backed by Grafana, Elasticsearch, and Kibana, exposed identically across dev, test, and prod. Binary-equivalent behaviour from laptop to production, eliminating the configuration drift that defined the incumbent CDN experience.

Adoption. Hardened the modular edge stack (Docker-native Varnish, Nginx, PageSpeed) against early enterprise workloads. Hotjar, NIB, and the Australian Magento and BigCommerce cohort: Temple & Webster, Appliances Online, Adore Beauty, Lorna Jane, Princess Polly. The developer-first CDN powering the operators that defined Australia’s 2010 to 2015 online retail boom.

Trajectory. Ran head-to-head proofs on customer workloads against incumbents. Deal-winning numbers that grew the platform out of its Australian origins toward the Boulder HQ relocation (Foundry Group, Techstars Ventures) and the eventual Webscale acquisition.

2005 to 2015

A decade shipping for Australia’s largest brands. At Readify (acquired by Telstra/Versent), frontend components for Westpac’s first hybrid mobile banking platform, the WCAG accessibility rebuild of Cancer Institute NSW’s web portfolio including iCanQuit, and Australian National University’s Tuckwell Scholarship Proof-of-concept on Windows Azure. At TheFARM Digital, launched The Wiggles’ first OTT subscription product for the band’s 20th anniversary in 2011 and consolidated Servcorp’s 120+ locations across 21 countries onto a single AWS platform.
